The Novus Academy has a creative, supportive, and innovative learning environment where all students have the opportunity to find success. We use a variety of multi-sensory instructional approaches and differentiate our curriculum to meet the needs of each individual learner.
Students are taught to “earn” everything in life rather than expecting everything to be “given” to them. This can be observed throughout our school. For example, when students in most schools receive a graded assignment back from a teacher, they are apt to do the following:
- If the grade is a “good” grade, they readily tell all that will listen, “Look, I got an ‘A’.”
- If the grade is “not good”, they first try to hide the work then will say, “My teacher gave me an “F’.”
The Novus Academy students readily state,“I earned this grade, and it was my choices and behaviors that led to the outcome.”
When the grade is a “low” grade, they then add what their plans are to improve future performance. They discover that using their difficulties as excuses will never serve them well because the world is not going to change to meet their needs. Rather, they must adapt to the world as they find it.
The Novus Academy students turn their challenges into successes and frequently exceed all expectations placed upon them by others. Each student is provided with leadership experiences and challenged to actively seek opportunities to leave the part of the world they touch better than they found it.
