This course centers on the theme of the Literary Experience which we will study by looking at traditions, values and culture through the literature of our country and the world. We will read a variety of short stories, essays, poems, dramas and novels to explore central ideals such as finding and creating personal identities, freedom and responsibility, moral choices, and the
Emphasis will be placed on critical thinking skills and writing effectively for a variety of purposes. In addition to the reading and writing aspects of the curriculum, we will also concentrate on vocabulary building and grammar conventions within the context of literary works, as well as through skill lessons.
Students will study literary forms and write both creatively and analytically to expand their literal, interpretive, creative and critical thinking. These classes will learn to use literary criticism to analyze texts and learn more about the historical and cultural contexts of their readings.
